Day Six - I'm No Ninja Warrior


I don't know about the rest of you, but our family loves American Ninja Warrior.  And there is no bigger fan that my four year old daughter.  She jumps from cushion to cushion on our couch and has even been known to be found straddling from couch to coffee table exclaiming "I'm a ninja warrior!" Probably the funniest thing is when she repeats the announcers when they say, "shirts going off" as one of the male contestants removes their shirt.

Now I know where some of you are already going in your mind.  This guy is going to commit to becoming an ninja warrior, and try out!  Negative!  Let's just put those rumors to rest before they even start.  The reasons I talk about ninja warrior are:
1. It's an exciting and impressive show.
2. I am extremely impressed with the dedication and work ethic put forth by these athletes.
3. The suspense of whether or not they will fall into the water (you know you take bets on how big of a splash they are going to make when they hit).
Really though, the dedication is inspiring.  While I may be more than double their weight and I only have the upper body strength of a T-Rex, I am training for my own goal.  It may not be to beat the wall, climb invisible ladders, or conquer Mount Midoriyama, but when I can complete basic daily functions unhindered, walk down the street without breathing heavy, and even run a couple miles I know I will feel like a champion.  I'm learning to be a goal driven person in my personal life again.  I don't have trouble making and meeting goals in my work, but in my personal life, it's like I've lost it over the past eight years.

So here is my challenge to you (if there is actually anyone out there reading this).  Find one goal, and stick to it.  Make it something that is obtainable.  If it is weight loss, give yourself a reachable weight in a reasonable amount of time.  Your goal may not be to lose weight at all.  It may have to do with time management, organization, reading more, just making better choices, or dropping a bad or addictive habit.  I don't know what it is for you, but I know what mine is.  And if there is anything I know about reading a goal, accountability is key.  So here I am, reaching out to the entire internet world as my accountability as I reach my goal of losing my butter half.

I was able to stay under my max calories, but I did go over my goal calories of 1500/day.  I'm still not where I want to be with my exercise, and I know with my desk job I don't take enough steps to get my metabolism going well.  I guess I need to remember it's baby steps.
