Day Five - Labor Day

Family, friends, (good) food, frisbee, and fun.  I hope everyone had a great Labor Day and had the opportunity to relax and really break from work.  Quick side note, for information on the history of Labor Day, visit this link.  We had the opportunity to have my sister and bro-in-law and their kids over, along with a couple more friends.

It was a scorcher here with the heat index well into the hundreds.  Of course burgers were on the menu, and I recently saw a recipe online for root beer chicken wings.  I'm sure you're probably thinking the same thing I was when I saw them.  Who would put root beer on wings?  Then my wife and I read the ingredients and saw orange zest and vanilla in the marinade, and were even more baffled.  Let me tell you though, these wings were AMAZING!  Everyone thought they were a huge hit.  You really can't tell that there is root beer or vanilla in them at all.  It's tastes like a delicious bbq sauce.  Be careful not to get the grill too hot though, as some of my wings charred a little when searing them.  For the recipe and a video, click here.

We also learned a new game call Kan Jam.  Best quick description would be a frisbee version of Corn Hole.  The best part about today was that even with an awesome pancake breakfast, and delicious late lunch I still stayed under my max calorie intake.  I'll be interested to see my progress at my first weigh in on Thursday.  So far, I am enjoying this fight to lose my butter half.
