Day Three - One Big Mac, Two Big Mac, Three Big Mac, Four!

An old habit started to kick in again today.  It was dinner time.  I had an idea for something for dinner tonight.  I wanted to grill a chicken wing recipe I found.  It didn't work out to get to the store to pick up ingredients, and then when it came time for dinner, we didn't have the bread thawed.  In the past I've gotten frustrated during this type of situation.  The result would be me in the car running to McDonalds (or any other fast food restaurant) for our dinner.
***Let me fill you in on why this is terrible.  Yes, most fast food is probably the worst food out there.  However that is not the what is terrible about this situation.  Please remember at this point in my journey, I'm not necessarily looking to make a 180 degree turn on what I'm eating.  Rather I am learning to eat less while making some better choices, time outside, and exercise.  The bigger problem would be the amount of food.  You see if I had ordered what I planned on ordering, I know my butter half would not be this large.  Not every time, but often, I would order not just the food for each of us (which would already be too many calories for me), but also food to eat on the way home. I would turn a 600-1000 calorie combo into a 1500-2000 calorie binge.  So not only was I putting unhealthy food into my body, but I was dumping an entire day's worth of calories in with it.

Let's get back to tonight.  My immediate reaction to the situation was the same.  I got frustrated.  How could my wife not get the bread out of the freezer?  After all I was nice enough to say I would prepare the food (does anyone else turn into a selfish jerk when they get frustrated?).  I immediately started considering where I was going to go by our dinner from.  This led the beast within to start thinking of all the extra food I could buy and consume on my way home.  Instead, I remembered two things (by God's grace).  One, we are trying to stop wasting money eating out.  And two, I am on a journey to drop this "extra person" I've been carrying around for the past seven years.  My AMAZING wife put slices of bread in the microwave and thawed them just right.  I let go of my frustration and thanked her for her genius (funny, a couple moments before she couldn't do anything right.  How'd she get smart so fast?).  I then proceeded to make three delicious grilled cheese sandwiches.  It was a perfectly satisfying dinner, and looking back I am so glad I was able to stick to my guns and continue in my fight to conquer my bad habits.

A trip to the park to play, a quick visit to the library, a few "Honey-Do" items accomplished, three meals all staying within my calorie goals, and the satisfaction of one more day closer to reaching my goal and losing my butter half.
