Day Forty-One - Bubby's Surgery
I heard someone say once that "Minor surgery is surgery that happens to someone else, major surgery is surgery that happens to me!" While that may be a joke, it is very accurate when speaking of your children. There is no minor surgery when it comes to your kids. There are few things that tug the heartstrings of a parents more than watching your child be wheeled off to surgery. I had never experienced this before (and honestly I hope I never experience it again). B had a minor outpatient surgery today. Yes, he is fine, so there's no need for you faithful readers to run out and buy gifts, send cards, or start a gofundme account (unless it is for his college education or my grocery bill when he is a teenager). The surgery only lasted about half an hour (it was a lot shorter than the prep and recovery times), but it did require anesthesia. I do not think that I can put into words the way I felt watching him ride the gurney through the doors to the OR and being told to wait in the waiting area.
Here is what I did think about today. I love my children. I don't like seeing them scared or in pain. I can't stand when I can't prevent something from happening to them. I am here to protect them, but like today, there will be times that I have to trust God and others with their care. The surgeon was great, and I know my God was greater. I also thought about how they would be taken care of if I wasn't around. My mind turned to my life insurance, and the debt that would need to be taken care of if something happened to me. The thing that hit me the most was that no matter how much money I leave behind, the void of them not growing up with their father or the strain for Bekah of single parenting would be awful. So when I talk about a life change and when I talk about the reasons for losing weight, it's them. I don't want my obesity to be the reason I can't be here for them. So tonight it's for Bekah, E, and B that I am losing my butter half.
Ok, side note from an insurance agent. The majority of the country is very underinsured when it comes to life insurance. Contact me or your insurance professional to run through your need vs. coverage and make sure you have enough to provide for your family in the event of tragedy.
Calorie intake was good today. I got to have PIZZA!!!! If you haven't had Kroger take home and bake pizza, it is really good (compared to other non-freezer, ready to bake pizzas). Still on track with exercise!
