Day Sixty-Eight - Let's Shoot the Squirrel

Have you ever had a "squirrel moment?"  You know, a moment when something completely distracts you from what you are doing or saying.  Just like Doug from the Pixar movie Up.  I am completely that type of person.  It takes very little to completely distract me.  Seriously, just ask Bekah.  I will be fully listening, 100% focused on her and what she is saying and... SQUIRREL!  In that moment, I'm gone.  Every good intention is out the window because of a ball game, TV show, Facebook post, random thought that jumped into my head, etc.  The list of distractions is endless.  It's sad really, and part of my life I'm working on.  I know that before long, I won't have to fight as hard to avoid distractions.  It will be like second nature, or a positive habit.  It will definitely be worth it as well.  If someone is really valuable to me (and Bekah is the most valuable to me), they deserve my full attention.

It really isn't that different when it comes to weight loss.  We can have the best of intentions.  We can even make a lot of progress towards our weight loss goal.  Then out of nowhere... SQUIRREL!  A situation, event, holiday, illness, change of schedule, etc. comes along and we are completely distracted.  The result of this distraction is a reversion to the bad habits and previous decisions.  All the progress that has been made is lost, and then the guilt/depression will set it.  Well, I say let's shoot the squirrel!  He's annoying, and we all know there's a billion or two others out there.  Find out what will help you keep your focus.  For me it's the accountability provided in this blog.  It helps me remember to track my calories and workout each day.  Just like being a better listener, as I practice my new healthier lifestyle, these processes will become habit.  It won't be so hard to avoid distractions.  I can start to see some hints of these habits in my journey so far, but I know I'm not above having a "Squirrel moment" at any time.  So here is to a squirrel free journey to lose my butter half.

Calories were good today.  Another workout down, it's getting to be a good habit in my life.
