After a long day at work (and a planning meeting after work), the last thing I want to do is get on an exercise bike and ride for nearly an hour. I would much rather be playing with my kids or hanging out with Bekah. I know that if I neglect my workout than I will not meet my goal. So I guess you could say that I am doing this so that I can be here to spend time with them as they grow older. So that explains why I exercise, but it still doesn't make it any less tedious. I realized that I needed to find something to get my mind off the exercise. I needed a distraction. So, how am I getting through these workouts? I'm distracting myself with movies (Christmas movies currently) and TV shows (The Flash, HGTV, ESPN, ballgames). Bekah was very kind to agree to have a TV mounted in our bedroom, and I put it on a full-motion mount so I can swing it to face my recumbent. I also read sometimes and blog (on my phone) as well. These things distract me and help make my workouts pass quicker.
On your journey to meeting your goal there will be things that you don't enjoy. It's kind of like a bitter pill. Just like my workouts it will be something you have to do to reach your goal. Let me encourage you to find a way to make it more enjoyable or at least easier to swallow. It may not take long before a routine is built and you can easily get through your "pill." So here's to tackling the necessary tasks and here's to swallowing the bitter pill. I will keep on exercising, because I'm losing my butter half.
My cold still isn't completely gone so I still don't have a huge appetite. I'm not quite hitting my calorie goal, but I'm just not hungry. I'm sure this will improve as this cold moves on. My workout was not fun, but thankfully I was able to push through and have a great workout.
