Day One Hundred and Fifty-Eight - Losing Weight on Super Bowl Sunday

Today is a national holiday for gluttony.  I know it really isn't officially, but it might as well be.  There are two days out of the year that it is perfectly fine to completely gorge ourselves on food.  At thanksgiving, we stretch our stomachs with turkey and pumpkin pie.  Today, it's every snack and junk food known to man.  From pizza to chicken wings, Doritos to Chex Mix, and Bud Light to Coca-Cola, people around the country use a football game as an excuse to pack ourselves to the brim with food.  It's Super Bowl Sunday, and traditionally it has been my favorite day to pig out.  Things are different this year.  I was able to approach today with a plan.  I didn't want to completely avoid the snack foods altogether (that wouldn't fit with the way I've been losing weight so far), I wanted to eat in moderation and choose healthier options of the snacks.  That is exactly what I did.

I started out my day with a really great omelette.  Let me preface this by saying (as I say a lot), I have never been an omelette fan.  I think it is because most people put cheddar cheese, onions, and mushrooms (bleh!) in the omelette.  The one I made today wasn't full of sausage and bacon.  I actually didn't have any meat in the omelette.  I made it with chopped spinach and mozzarella cheese.  I added some picante on top and Taco Bell Fire Sauce on the side.  It was by far the best omelette I have ever eaten!  Oh, and did I mention it was under two hundred calories?  For lunch I ate an absolutely delicious salad.  Again, another low calorie option while still being very filling!  This left me with plenty of calories to enjoy a healthy portion of Super Bowl foods at our Care Group's party.  We had Whole Hog Cafe barbecue.  I only had half a bun, and put the pulled meat on it open face style.  I had a couple of Doritos (a half serving) and then enjoyed some veggie straws (again, not something I would have chosen in the past).  I did allow myself to have one of Bekah's awesome Cocoa Krispies football treats.  I had all of this and I still stayed within my overall calories.  I hope you read this and see, it is possible to eat healthy, and lose weight even on US Glutton Day.  All is takes is determination, preparation, and self-control.  It's Super Bowl Sunday folks, and I'm losing my butter half.

My calorie intake was a little higher than I prefer (though still within my 1500 calorie limit), but I did allow myself a few extra things at the Super Bowl party tonight.  I planned ahead and did my workout this morning before church.  This worked out perfect so I didn't have to workout after the game this evening.
