Day One Hundred and Ninety-Nine - Lions and Tigers and Ice Cream, Oh My!

It has been an adventurous day for the Vickers family.  We started off with a fun trip to the zoo.  There is something oddly enjoyable about looking at animals inside of cages.  Plus, the kids absolutely love going.  We arrived at the zoo early, and took time to see most of the animals.  My favorites are always the cats and the apes.  I especially love seeing the jaguars and smaller african cats.  The chimps and the lemurs are a lot of fun to watch as well.  B doesn't really get a lot out of the trip, but E really enjoys it when we go.  Today we brought a friend along as well.  It was so sweet watching them walk hand-in-hand around the zoo.  I'm grateful that I could get a good amount of walking in today.

We had free passes for the girls to ride the carousel right before we left the park, but unfortunately the carousel was down for maintenance.  It was a big disappointment for the girls, so I suggested we go get them a treat on the way home.  E asked for ice cream with sprinkles.  E has a very severe allergy, so getting ice cream out is difficult.  Bekah called Cold Stone to find out what they do for customers with allergies.  They were great!  They got out a clean scoop and brought a cold tray out to mix E's cream and sprinkles on.  It was very special for E to get ice cream that wasn't soft-serve from a fast food joint.  I was really excited because they had the perfect option for me as well.  I was freaking out when I saw the calories for each of the ice cream servings and began to think that ice cream was a big mistake.  In the past it wouldn't have mattered, I would have simply ordered whatever looked good.  My calorie intake would have been over 1000 calories I'm sure.  Thankfully, today I saw the Salted Caramel Yogurt.  I didn't know Cold Stone even offered a frozen yogurt.  This did not disappoint.  It had a tiny sour taste of yogurt, but was very delicious.  The best part was that it was over one hundred and fifty calories less than the ice cream.  I thought it was really cool that I was still able to enjoy a cold treat while losing my butter half.

Overall my eating was good today.  I didn't really eat dinner.  The kids weren't feeling well tonight, so  after putting them down, Bekah and I had some delicious banana chocolate chip muffins (recipe here).  Since I had the frozen treat and other snacks today, I need to be more careful through the rest of the week.  I got a lot of exercise today.  We walked all over the zoo, and then I did a full workout this evening with a set of crunches.
