Day Two Hundred and Sixty-Three - It's Hard Being Patient

Today did not happen quite like I had planned.  Well, I guess I should say this afternoon was not what I had in mind.  I planned to run to Walmart for about forty-five minutes for an oil change and to grab a few things, and then come home and nap until we needed to leave for Care Group.  That is not what happened at all.  The forty-five minute wait the Tire and Lube center gave me when I called ahead turned into a twenty minute wait to get signed in.  Then another hour and a half wait for the oil change.  Needless to say, I did not get that nap.

I did not enjoy the wait this afternoon.  I wanted to pull up, have my oil changed while I took ten minutes to grab a couple items from the store, and head home.  The idea of having to wait just didn't sit well.  Why is that?  Why don't we like to wait?  What is wrong with us?  We are a generation of instant gratification.  Pizza Hut recently released their survey findings that said consumers would be fine with a lower quality of product, if it meant getting the product quicker and for less money.  Everything is about having what we want, exactly when we want it.  We need entire seasons of a show released at once (Netflix), instant internet speed, and drive-thru weddings.  For a lot of us (including me), we want this immediate gratification to carry over to our weight loss.  We don't want to wait a year or more to get to a healthy weight.  We all want to wake up tomorrow morning and have a thirty-two waist.  Or maybe we don't mind the work to get there, it is just the time.  Weight loss isn't an instant thing.  For some it may happen faster than for others, and others it may not take as much effort.  Still, it isn't a one day, one week, or even a one month process.  It will take months and even years (if you are as big as I was).  So when you wake up tomorrow and haven't lost one hundred pounds over night, just be patient.  Stick with your plan and don't end your journey early.  I'll be here to encourage you each step of the way.  It may not be happening fast, but I'm losing my butter half.

My calories today were not perfect.  The day started off with whole wheat chocolate chip banana pancakes.  I had barbecue tonight with my salad.  I also had a little bite of a brownie and a bite of chocolate cobbler.  It was more than I needed to eat and definitely more calories than I should eat.  My workout was a struggle today.  I had to break my ten push-ups into two sets of five (and I did more pushups from my knees between the two sets).  I hate push-ups, but I know if I can stick with them, it will be worth it in the long run.
