Day Three Hundred and Forty-Nine - The Old is New Again

So I came home today to find a living room with vintage toys laying around the floor.  Bekah's mom sent some of her childhood toys for B and E to play with.  The kids love the Magnet Blocks (although B quickly chucked one at the TV) and I love watching them play with toys that require imagination.  I especially enjoy the fact that this entertainment isn't an iPad or TV show.  It's really cool seeing something that is old being brought back and put to good use.  Sometimes we forget that just because something is used or old, doesn't mean it has lost its usefulness.  We tend to get rid of perfectly functioning toys, gadgets, clothes, etc. when we (or others) can still use them.

In a small way, this relates to weight loss.  As we get older, we stop using our bodies.  We don't play sports or work out anymore, and tend to pack on the pounds.  Or if you are like me, you didn't even have to get old to put the weight on.  We get so used to being overweight, that we forget how useful our bodies really are.  We don't try to run or jump anymore.  We stop getting down on the floor to play with the kids or climb into the attic to put things in storage.  We think we are good for working during the day, and then watching TV or scrolling through Facebook at night.  This was literally what I would do each day.  I would work and then come home and veg out.  I may have helped with the kids a little, but physically playing with them was an afterthought.  I'm glad I've brought my body back to life.  I'm excited to see the fun, work, adventure I'll experience having dropped this weight.  I'm also excited to know that I'll get to entertain my children with wrestling, playing catch, piggy-back rides, hiking, camping, running, etc. now after bringing my body back from uselessness.  I'm so thrilled to see the benefits of losing my butter half.

I'm still not eating much for food.  I definitely stayed under calories today and even avoided having a milkshake.  Instead I had some soft choices like oatmeal, banana, Asian noodles and eggs, chocolate pudding, jello, and sweet potato.  It was all delicious, but I'm really looking forward to getting back to my daily salad.  My workout was good this morning.  I'm taking it easy with my bodyweight routine, adding it back in slowly.  Today I did push-ups and sit-ups.  Tomorrow I'll add some planks back into the mix.
