Day Six Hundred and Forty-Seven - Get Your Rear in Gear 5K

I woke up this morning and saw something on my phone about a 5K at a nearby park. I had considered  running it a while back, but hadn’t given it much thought since. Anyway, I decided that since I was going to run this morning anyway, I could at least get out and run with a group of other people. I had to hurry to get there in time to register, and I made it with about ten minutes to spare. The Run was to raise money for colon cancer. It was a mix of survivors, people who have lost loved ones or have loved ones fighting colon cancer right now, and also a mix of local runners who like to run and help raise awareness. It turns out a customer of mine was the event coordinator, and he is a survivor. So it was great talkin g to him, and running for something and someone I know. I think the course may have been a little short, because I was way under my fastest time (by two minutes). Also, my watch and a few others all show it was at least a fifth of a mile short. On a cool note I was fastest in my age group (though I’m nearly certain that there weren’t more than ten in the male 30-39 group)!  Still, it was cool to win an award. My calories today were pretty bad. I didn’t even track them today. That was not the way I wanted to end this week. But I did get to go out with the love of my life tonight. We had a free sitter (thanks Mom!), so we went and tried a new restaurant. She was an amazing date as always.  Nearly eight years in, and all I can say is that I’m the luckiest guy in the world.
